Relevance of serum alkaline phosphatase as a diagnostic aid in lung pathology.

چکیده
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP, 3.1.3.1) is a dimeric glycoprotein present in humans that catalyses the hydrolysis of orthophosphoric monoesters at alkaline PI! (1). It has been reported to occur in abundance in human bile canaliculi, bone, intestine, placenta and kidney (1). Hence serum ALP levels has been extensively used as a diagnostic tool for hepatobilliary disorders particularly in patients with extrahepatic cholestasis (2). It bas also been suggested to be useful in the diagnosis of malignancies and diseases affecting the liver (3,4), bone (5) and kidney (6). However, in the last few years a number of workers have reported serum ALP as a useful diagnostic parameter in certain types of lung disorders (7-9). In the light of this information available in scientific literature the aim of the present work was to evaluate and confirm the extent of utility of serum ALP as a diagnostic marker for various lung pathology.

Measurement of placental alkaline phosphatase activity in benign and malignant pleural effusions.
The usefulness of placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) as a diagnostic marker of malignancy was assessed in pleural fluid from 60 patients with effusions. Pleural fluid PLAP activities were measured by an enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) using the two monoclonal antibodies H17E2 and H317. Similar values were found in groups of patients with primary bronchial tumours (n = 12), secondary malign...

Background: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), (EC 3.1.3.1) is a hydrolase enzyme responsible for removing phosphate groups from various molecules in the body. In humans, ALPis present in all tissues such as liver, bile duct, kidney, bone, and the placenta which detection of its activity is so useful in molecular biology. Pregnancy is associated with normal physiological changes that assist fetal surv...
متن کاملAn alarming biochemical side effect of Teucrium polium on the plasma membrane alkaline phosphatase of k562 cell line
The unexpected enhancement of alkalinee phosphatase (ALP) activity in the serum of a group of STZ-diabetic rats recieving the Teucrium polium extract (with hypoglycaemic property) may be attributed to its probable side effects. In order to get a more precise knowledge about this subject, we evaluated the effect of T. polium extract on the plasma membrane ALP activity of K562 cell line. Our data...

متن کاملThe levels of Serum Alkaline Phosphatase and Lactate Dehydrogenase in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Background: Hodgkin’s disease (HD) is a neoplastic disease originating in lymphoid tissue, which spreads to lymphoid structures and ultimately nonlymphoid tissues. Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase are increased in blood following membrane cell damage. The aim of this study was to compare Lactate Dehydrogenase and Alkaline Phosphatase levels in children in different stages of Hodg...
